Ruthann Green

Young Cellist Bringing Classical Music to the Next Generation

Ruthann Green- Is It Worth It? Learning to Play the Cello
Ruthann Green

Ruthann Green is a Boston-based young cellist whose interactive performances introduce children and families to the beauty, storytelling, and expressive power of classical music. A Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras ICP student, Ruthann began studying the cello at the age of six and continues to develop her artistry through dedicated training, ensemble participation, and regular performances. She has performed at the Tsai Performance Center and will perform at Symphony Hall Boston this spring as part of her musical studies. Through engaging and welcoming presentations, Ruthann introduces young audiences to classical music in an approachable and joyful way. In addition to performing, she is also a thoughtful young communicator who enjoys learning from and speaking with professional musicians. She has conducted interviews with leading classical artists including nine-time Grammy Award–winning violinist Eugene Drucker, internationally acclaimed cellist and youngest winner of the International Tchaikovsky Competition cello division Zlatomir Fung, acclaimed cellist Christine Lee of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and musicians from the Longwood Symphony Orchestra. These experiences have helped shape her confidence in speaking about music and connecting meaningfully with audiences of all ages.

Program Feature

Young Voices in Classical Music: An Interactive Cello Experience

Young Voices in Classical Music is an interactive performance program designed to introduce children and families to classical music through live cello performance, storytelling, and conversation.

Young cellist Ruthann Green shares her musical journey while performing selections that highlight the expressive voice of the cello. Between pieces, she speaks with audiences about her instrument, the music she practices, and what it means to grow as a young musician.

Children are encouraged to ask questions, learn how the cello produces sound, and discover how music can communicate ideas, emotions, and stories.

Rather than a traditional recital, this program creates a welcoming environment where young listeners experience classical music as something personal, joyful, and accessible.

Music, Ideas, and Community

Throughout history, music has helped communities express ideas, emotions, and cultural change.

Inspired by Boston’s rich tradition of artistic expression and civic dialogue, Ruthann’s performances invite audiences—especially children—to explore how music can tell stories, share ideas, and bring people together.

By sharing her own musical journey and encouraging curiosity through conversation, Ruthann hopes to inspire young audiences to see creativity, learning, and artistic expression as powerful tools for exploring the world around them.

In this way, each performance becomes more than a concert—it becomes an invitation for the next generation to discover the transformative power of music.
